Jerry Hoffman In 1979, Jerry helped start radio station KKAP in Capitola, Ca. and thru the 1980's maintained his Sports talk program and cultivated sponsors to support it. Despite ownership changes and format adjustments, Hoffman maintained the sports profile. In 1985, when interviewing a boxing promoter and two heavyweights for an upcoming promotion in Monterey, Jerry was invited to be the guest Ring Announcer. As a result, Hoffman was then hired to ring announce all of that promoters shows, and other promoters followed suit. At the end of the 80's, with yet another ownership change at the radio station, Jerry formed his own company to create sports programming for various stations. The freelance arrangement worked tremendously, and in 1992, the sport of Professional Boxing became the backbone of 12 Sports Productions. With 8 years of ring announcing experience, Hoffman took the bold step to become a licensed promoter and matchmaker. His creating in Santa Cruz of the "SHAKEDOWN IN QUAKETOWN" series at the Civic Auditorium was an instant success and thrived until 1996. At that point, Hoffman returned to where it all started and struck a deal with the Hyatt Regency-Monterey as promoter. The "RIOT AT THE HYATT" shows consistantly sold out the Grand Ballroom weeks before showtime, and the event had the reputation as the finest Pro boxing series in California. In July of 2006, THE RIOT moved downtown. The larger venue and desirable location has become a twice per year (Summer and Fall) event at the Monterey Conference Center. 3 current local World Champions were promoted by 12 Sports Productions early in their careers. Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero from Gilroy, Watsonville's Carina Moreno, and Nonito Donaire own featherweight, Strawweight, and Flyweight world titles. "Sugar" Shane Mosley, Stevie Johnston, James Page and Gina Guidi are all former world champs who fought for us locally. Our featured prospects of late have been Team Garcia fighters Jesus "Chuy Rodriguez (pictured after winning state title) and undefeated Eloy Perez. When not working on a boxing show, Jerry is involved in Snowsports as a member of the North American Snowsports Journalist Association-west and plays hardball in the 27+ Men's Sr. Baseball League. He annually plays in the MSBL World Series on minor league fields in Phoenix. Lately for the over 55 wood bat Long Island Athletics.
